Leadership Is All About Others!

Others, spiritual leadership, team 1 Comment

Hey Friends,

As you know, spiritual leadership is what I am most passionate about. At the core of leadership it is all about others. Peter Drucker said, “Leadership is the lifting of a man’s vision to higher sights, the raising of a man’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a man’s personality beyond its normal limits.” I love this because it cuts to the bottom line of what we need to do for others.

Far too many people want to be leaders because of what they see as perks. There are some perks for being a leader, but the responsibility far outweighs the perks. You and I are supposed to be here to help make others better. Are you? Do you?

Leaders don’t evaluate their performance based what they do, but by how it affects others, the team and the organization. Let’s look at a few questions to help evaluate our leadership:

1. Are the people on your team succeeding? Since leadership is about others, how are they doing?

2. Are the people on your team being developed? At FPC we spend a lot of money of staff development. The better the leadership team the better the church. This is a critical focus for the senior team and whole staff. We want to develop people at every level.

3. Are the people on your team being transformed? Personal growth is a passion. I am nearly finished with my second book and it is all about developing a personal growth plan for your life.

4. Do the people on your team trust you? You can’t lead them if they don’t trust you. In spiritual leadership, here is where the enemy engages us to the extreme! Be ready. People won’t follow you if they don’t trust you.

It is easy to evaluate our leadership on how we are doing! The only problem is that it tells us nothing about our leadership. It is all about others.

How do you see it?

Love ya,

Pastor Chris

Dead Sea Thinking

Adding Value, Others 1 Comment

Hey Friends,

The Dead Sea is beautiful. I have driven around it and have gone for a swim in it. It is below sea level and NOTHING can live in it because everything flows in and nothing flows out. It is dead! It is dead because this is not how the Lord designed the world to operate.

We are all supposed to take things in and we are all supposed to give things out. This is true in the physical realm as well as the spiritual realm. Far too many people, and even some in the church today, are dead seas in their lives and in their thinking.

Life is all about them! Everything flows to them, but never away. They are like the Dead Sea and  nothing can really live in them or around them. The Dead Sea is selfish and God can’t bless selfishness. I hope you caught that last sentence because it is so true.

I wonder if some of the churches today are “Dead Sea” in their thinking. If the life of God is flowing in, then the life of God should be flowing out and giving others life.

Does life flow out of you? Are you a giver of yourself? Of your money? Of your time?

Look around you – do you see life? Are the people around you flourishing, thriving, growing, and giving life to others? That is the plan of God. We are blessed to be a blessing. People are like plants; they need water to grow and we are called to water them.

Who are you blessing?

Just some thoughts…

Love you,

Pastor Chris
